Welcome to LRSCC

The Little Rock Sister Cities Commission works to foster relationships between Little Rock and its Sister Cities to promote mutual cross-cultural understanding and exchanges. The commission will cultivate this environment by serving as a conduit for potential business and educational collaboration and offering unique experiences in international arts and culture.

BridgeLittle Rock Sister Cities Commission envisions a future where Little Rock citizens and their international partners understand, appreciate, and accept the unique characteristics of their Sister Cities' history, culture, and goals to achieve global harmony.

The 13-member commission, which is appointed by the Little Rock Board of Directors, is responsible for maintaining relationships with our Sister Cities. Commissioners are appointed to five-year terms on the commission. The duties of the Commission are to develop guidelines and programs for Sister City relationships, to further public awareness of other cultures, emphasizing cultural, historical and economic development with Little Rock’s Sister Cities.

Sister Cities are selected on the basis of common interests that may relate to cultural, educational, or commercial relationships. Where possible, there has been an attempt to match the size of the Sister City with that of Little Rock. Each relationship carries a sense of potential, as future interchanges may lead to greater benefits.

Every other year, each Little Rock Sister City is invited to come to Little Rock to be welcomed and greeted by both private and government officials. The visits range in length from three to five days and involve a mixture of official events and informal tours of the city and neighboring areas. Visits are aimed at enriching the Sister City relationship and providing opportunities for individuals with common interests to meet and discuss their pursuits.

In addition to our normal activities during 2011, we have three key initiatives being finalized and introduced:

Economic Development - A vital activity for both the City of Little Rock and its Sister Cities. Using our long established relationships to create economic activity is a natural fit.

Effective Communications – Keeping the Citizens of Little Rock informed of the commission’s activities is the key for all to understand how the commission is contributing to the advancement of the City of Little Rock and its Citizens. We will use the new e-mail newsletter and the Little Rock Sister Cities Commission Facebook page to keep all informed.

Youth Leadership Program – This Spring we will host an event to educate more citizens about the program and gather support for the next class.
